Superior won the WIAA Division 1 state title for the 13th time in school history Saturday with a 6-0 victory over Wausau West.
The Spartans will play Wausau West at 2:15 p.m. Saturday
Nystrom scored a goal and assisted on another to lead the Spartans into Friday’s semifinal against the Cedarburg Bulldogs, who advanced with a 3-2 victory over Reedsburg-Wisconsin Rapids.
The Spartans’ roster includes 10 seniors, led by captain Tyler Nystrom, who leads the Spartans in scoring with eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points.
The Spartans will play Janesville Parker/Craig in the state tournament quarterfinals at 1:15 p.m. Thursday.
With a 58-36 win over UW-Stevens Point Friday night, UWS will host UW-Oshkosh in the WIAC championship game at 2 p.m. Sunday.
The Spartans (10-14-1) will host Hudson at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Superior High School girls hockey team opened the WIAA playoffs with a 3-2 win over the Hudson Raiders Tuesday night at the Superior Ice Arena.
Henry Ellenson scored 45 points to lead the Rice Lake Warriors to a 74-66 overtime win over the Superior High School boys basketball team Saturday evening in the SHS gym.
The Spartans will now host the New Richmond Tigers in sectional semifinal game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
