HUDSON, Wis. — An assistant Hudson High School girls' basketball coach was placed on unpaid leave from the school district amid sex-related charges filed this week in St. Croix County Circuit Court. Louis J. French, 42, was charged Tuesday, Aug. 29 with first-degree child sex assault, repeated sexual assault of a child, using a computer to aid in a sex crime and causing a child to view sexual activity.
RIVER FALLS, Wis. — A proposal that critics say could spell doom for taprooms in Wisconsin breweries remains afloat, according to a Wisconsin State Assembly member. Rep. Shannon Zimmerman refuted a Wednesday, July 12, media report that the proposal — which has not been made public — is effectively dead.
HUDSON, Wis. — One teen died and another was rescued after both Twin Cities residents went underwater Tuesday on the St. Croix River at Hudson. Hudson Police Chief Marty Jensen said the apparent drowning victim, a 19-year-old from St. Paul, was pronounced dead at about 6 p.m. at Hudson Hospital. A second teen was pulled from the water by friends and was saved by CPR, the chief said. Jensen that that person, an 18-year-old Maplewood resident was "doing well" and recovering at Hudson Hospital.
ALMA, Wis. — Wisconsin's state budget is slowly taking shape in Madison as lawmakers enter the session's home stretch. But not for Kathleen Vinehout. She's already finalized the state's budget. The Democratic senator from Alma spent last week in her district — which includes Pierce County — touting an alternative budget for Wisconsin that she drew up herself. With items such as free two-year college, more money for local governments and the removal of various tax credits, it stands in contrast to Gov. Scott Walker's budget proposal.
HUDSON, Wis.—A man stabbed his mother to death Saturday night in rural Hudson before shooting at police in an incident that led to a 50-mile pursuit into Minnesota, eventually ending with the suspect taking his own life, authorities said. The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office identified the man as Glenwood City, Wis., resident Logan T. Reese. The 28-year-old allegedly killed his mother, identified as 49-year-old Charlene Wold, in Hudson.
