The University of Wisconsin-Superior women’s hockey team swept a home-and-home non-conference series with the St. Catherine Wildcats over the weekend.
The Yellowjackets won 5-2 Friday in St. Paul then 2-1 Saturday afternoon at Wessman Arena.
Emily Heid scored twice and Molly Shelton, Megan Dulong and Celina Clark each scored once in Friday’s road win.
Sky Brown had 24 saves for UWS Friday, which peppered Wildcat goaltender Kristen Pechacek with 50 shots.
Rebecca Prigge and Tori Thompson scored second-period goals for the Wildcats.
On Saturday, Amanda Sergent scored the game-winning goal with 2:45 to play in the third period.
Brede Postier gave St. Catherine’s (1-2) the lead at 14:08 of the second period before Kaylee Wood equalized for UWS (3-1) just 25 seconds later.
Brown had 19 saves in the UWS and Pechacek had 30 for the Wildcats.
UWS hosts Hamline at 7 p.m. today.

Katie Stark scored 18 points as Minnesota Duluth rallied for a 49-44 victory over UWS in their women’s basketball exhibition opener Saturday at Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium.
Stark, a sophomore forward from Hayward, added seven rebounds while shooting 8-for-13 from the field. Ann Simonet, Emma Boehm and Sarah Grow chipped in seven points apiece, while Sammy Kozlowski added eight rebounds and three assists.
UMD outscored the Yellowjackets 15-8 in the fourth quarter to erase a 36-34 deficit.
Former Superior Spartan Hailey Kontny led UWS with 14 points and six rebounds. Jade Tucker and Eva Reinertsen were next with six points apiece and Amelia Leger scored five points and dished out five assists.
The Yellowjackets out rebounded the Bulldogs 36-35 and had the advantage on second chance points 7-6.
UWS officially opens its season when it hosts Augsburg on Nov. 15.
UWS junior Emily VerWay was named the UMAC volleyball Player of the Week.
She tallied 133 assists in three matches; recorded a season-high 48 assists vs. Northland on Oct. 25; and followed up with a new season-high 49 vs. North Central on Oct. 27.
