UWS wins fifth straight over St. Scholastica
Brylee Colligan had 15 kills and 23 digs to lead the University of Wisconsin-Superior volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 25-18) victory over the St. Scholastica Saints Tuesday night at Mertz Mortorelli Gym.
Ashley Runck (11) and Leah Nightingale (10) were also in double digits in kills for UWS (12-9 overall, 7-3 UMAC), while Emily VerWay led the offense with 44 set assists.
Mackenzie Dahlin also chipped in with a match-high 30 digs for the Yellowjackets, who now lead the all-time series with St. Scholastica 36-33.
Brooke Elvehjem and Brooke Schermann had 11 and 10 kills, respectively, for St. Scholastica (7-14, 5-4), while Espi Austvold had 24 set assists and 10 digs.
UWS hosts Bethel at 3 p.m. Saturday.
’JACKET JOTTINGS: The Yellowjackets also defeated the Saints earlier this season in four sets at the Mertz. … The Saints have not won against the Yellowjackets in Superior since the 2009 season, dropping the last five matchups. … UWS, which was tied for third place in the UMAC with Martin Luther, is now 5-1 at home this season. … Heading into Tuesday’s match, Runck led UWS with 154 kills, VerWay ranked third in the UMAC, averaging 7.07 assists per set, and Brylee Colligan was averaging 2.57 kills per set, which ranks in the top 10 of the UMAC.
