The University of Wisconsin-Superior women’s basketball team clinched a WIAC playoff berth with a 72-55 win over the UW-River Falls Falcons Wednesday night in Karges Center in River Falls.

The Yellowjackets trailed 7-0 and 12-2, but a 16-4 run helped give UWS a 36-32 halftime lead. UWS never trailed again and went on to outscore UWRF 36-23 in the second half.

Not only did UWS claim its second straight victory, the ’Jackets also clinched their third straight WIAC tournament bid and upped their overall record to 14-10 while also going to 7-8 in league play.

 The Falcons dropped to 6-18 overall and 4-11 in WIAC play, and were eliminated from playoff contention.

Sally Linzmeier scored 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Yellowjackets. Brynn Liljander added 16 points, while Grace Kennedy and Deandra Vavra each chipped in eight.

Cassy Saxton and Ali Clark each scored 10 points to lead River Falls (6-18, 4-11).

UWS closes out the regular season at 3 p.m. Saturday at UW-Oshkosh. The game may be heard locally on 91.3 FM KUWS.
