Nelsons advance to state cross country meet

Northwestern High School’s Kennedy Nelson and Abby Nelson have both advanced to the WIAA Division 2 State Cross Country Championships.

Kennedy Nelson, a sophomore, finished in fourth place with a time of 22 minutes, 22.4 seconds. Abby Nelson finished fifth in 22:25.1.

Olivia Moll of St. Croix Central won the girls race in 21:57.

St. Croix Central won the team title with 62 points. Also advancing to state is Hayward, which finished second with 75 points. The Tigers finished fourth with 88 points.

Osceola and St. Croix Central finished 1-2 among the boys teams with 58 and 100 points, respectively.

Northwestern just missed advancing to state with a third-place finish with 114 points.

Ashland’s twin brothers Walker and Maury Miller finished 1-2 among the boys.

Kevin Garland was Northwestern’s top runner in ninth place.

The state meet is Saturday at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

The Nelsons will be running in the D2 race at 12:40 p.m.
