The Northwestern High School girls golf team advanced to the WIAA Division 2 sectional with a third-place finish at Monday’s regional meet at the Spooner Golf Club.

Stanley-Boyd won the regional crown with a team score of 373. Rounding out the top four teams were Hayward, 386; Northwestern, 395; and Ladysmith, 406.

Individually, Stanley-Boyd senior Savanna Anderson took medalist honors with a 78. Hayward junior Emily Neff was second with an 80, and Northwestern sophomore Kiernan Smith was third at 88.

Smith’s round included a 39 on the front nine.

Also for the Tigers, Kendra Maki was fifth with a 94; Sarah Wahlquist was 14th at 103; Chloe Larson carded 110 to tie for 18th; and Lita Lind was 33rd with a 126. Smith and Wahlquist are seniors and Larson and Lind are juniors.

The sectional meet is at 9 a.m. Monday at the Frederic Golf Course with tee times starting at 9 a.m.

The first two teams and top three individuals, who are not members of a qualifying team, advance to the WIAA State Tournament Oct. 9-10 at University Ridge in Madison.
