The Northwestern High School girls basketball team has been perfect in December.

The Tigers are 3-0 this month after victories over all three Heart O’ North Conference opponents they’ve faced.

Among Northwestern’s wins was a 61-56 upset at Hayward Tuesday. Hayward is the defending WIAA Division 3 state champion and claimed the HON title last season.

The Tigers and Hurricanes were tied 25-25 after the first half, but Northwestern outscored Hayward 36-31 in the second half to win.

On Thursday, another strong second-half performance propelled Northwestern to a 53-50 victory over Barron.

Northwestern trailed by one at halftime, 22-21, and outscored the Bears 32-28 in the second half.

Katie Lundeen led the Tigers with 18 points. Laryssa Vik and Lyndzee Parker added eight apiece, Cassidy Friend had seven, and Sam Hoegen and Mack Correll had six each.

Kristin Doriott led the Bears with 24 points.

Northwestern (4-1, 3-0) returns to action Thursday with a home game against the Bloomer Blackhawks (5-0, 3-0). The winner of Thursday’s game will sit alone atop the HON standings.
