NHS wrestling team pinned in Chetek

The Northwestern High School wrestling team fell to Chetek-Weyerheuser/Prairie Farm 42-29 Tuesday night.

The Tigers won five matches. Jay Karich (195), Justin Little (220) and Jamison Pflug (126) won by pins; Luke Jarman (120) won by technical fall; and Connor Wheeler (106) won by forfeit.

“It’s been a tough but good season for these young wrestlers,” NHS coach Bob Coleman said. “They have come so close so many times, but it seems to slip away. The match was a lot closer than the score showed.”

Chetek took a 13-0 lead when Jackson Doller had a chance to get the Tigers on the board at 182.

“Jackson was ahead with seconds to go and then gives up a five-point move to lose the match 13-9,” Coleman said. “But our guys just never quit and we came back to take the lead 29-19. But experience took its toll with Chetek winning the next four matches.

“It was a very exciting night with our boys giving it their best every second. I’m very proud of them.”

Jared Woohull finished the night off for the Tigers with a pin in a JV match.

“It’s his first year wrestling and he came up with a big pin for us,” Coleman said.

The Tigers will compete in the Interstate Tournament Saturday in St Croix Falls.
