SHS soccer team is 2-0-1

The Superior High School boys soccer team improved to 2-0-1 with a 10-0 victory over Mesabi East Area Tuesday evening at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.

The Spartans, who scored five goals in each half, got two goals and two assists from Blake Hanson; two goals apiece from Jarrett Kallinen and Maverick Peterson; a goal and two assists from Brandon Conklin; a goal each from Ty Russ, Sebastian Lane and Tiegan Roden; two assists from Alex Hanson; and one assist from Nate DeRoche.

SHS keeper Cal Berti had one save in the win.

The Spartans, who hosted Washburn/Bayfield/South Shore Thursday, host Proctor at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 7.

Girls golf

Superior’s Lauren Raboin picked up medalist honors in Monday’s Heart O’North Conference meet in Barron.

Raboin’s final score of 46 helped the Spartans split on the day, beating Spooner and losing to Barron.

Barron’s Clara Babler was second on the day at 51.

Other Superior scores were Bridget Beyer, 61; Connie Misfeldt, 64; and Abby Johnson, 67. The Spartans’ non-counting scores were Naomi McLennan, 68; and Claire King, 74.

The Spartans split again Wednesday at Frederic.

Hayward went 2-0 with a  team score of 206. Superior was next at 232 and the host Luck-Unity squad carded 242.

Raboin again had Superior’s low score with a 54. Julie Haller turned in a 56, followed by Abby Johnson, 59; Bridget Boyer, 63; and Misfeldt’s non-counting 65.

Hayward’s Emily Neff led all golfers with a 41.

The Spartans play in the Northwestern Invitational at 9 a.m. Thursday at Hidden Greens in Solon Springs.

Girls tennis

The Spartans lost to Duluth East 5-2 Tuesday in Duluth.

Both Superior wins came in doubles action as Alee Milinkovich and Addy Young defeated Sydney Olson and Greta Andersson, 7-6 (4), 6-1; and Drew Urbanick and Kaylee Yliniemi downed Norah Powell and Katherine Seidelmann, 6-3, 6-3.

The Spartans also played Duluth Denfeld Tuesday, but results were unavailable.

Superior hosts Hermantown at 4:15 p.m. Thursday.
