SPARTAN ROUND-UP: Boys tennis and golf teams compete

The Superior High School boys tennis team came up a bit short in a 4-3 loss Friday at Duluth Marshall.

June Jang and Reed Rehnstrand won singles matches for the Spartans and Alex Beebe and Caden Welch won the No. 1 doubles.

Jang defeated Devin Wilson 7-5, 6-2; Rehnstrand rebounded from a 6-1 loss to Rain Li with wins of 6-4, 7-5; and Beebe and Welch downed Will Hanson and Keyur Dhunhana 7-5, 6-4.

The Spartans are at Eveleth-Gilbert today and host Hermantown Thursday at the Superior Middle School courts. Both matches begin at 4:15 p.m.

Boys golf

The Spartans finished seventh at Saturday’s Chippewa Falls Invite.

Eau Claire Memorial won the team title with a score of 302 and Trevor Hudecek shared medalist honors with River Falls’ Blake Skogen with 72s.

Superior, which finished with a score of 349, was led by Cayden Laurvick’s 83. Other SHS scores were Grant Sorensen, 84; Scott Archambeau, 88; Keifer Eales, 94; and Ethan Buhr, 95.

Superior will golf in the Pokegema Invite Friday and Saturday in Grand Rapids.
