DULUTH — Brandie Goldberg tossed a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts as the Superior High School softball team defeated the Duluth Denfeld Hunters Saturday afternoon at Wade Stadium.

Goldberg retired the next seven batters before hitting Destiny Spaulding with two outs in the fourth inning. She then struck out five of the next six batters before Gina Torres hit a two-out home run in the sixth inning.

Larson also had Denfeld’s third hit, a double in the seventh inning.

The Spartans also got RBI doubles from Erin Thompson and Olivia Hunker; Hannah Thul doubled and scored four runs; Madysen Stariha, Goldberg and DeMeyer hit RBI singles; and Allie Thul and Kaileigh Miller both had base hits.

Superior jumped on Denfeld starting pitcher Catlin Schneeweis with three runs in the first inning on Thompson’s RBI double and RBI singles by Goldberg and DeMeyer.
