SPARTAN ROUND-UP: Five Spartans named to LSC softball team

Five members of the Superior High School softball team were named to the Lake Superior Conference All-Conference team for the 2016 season.

Brandie Goldberg, Erika Olson and Erin Thompson were first-team selections; Lanie DeMeyer was a second-team pick; and Madysen Stariha was named honorable mention.

Goldberg, Olson and DeMeyer are juniors, Thompson is a sophomore and Stariha is a freshman.

LSC Track and Field

SHS had eight athletes named all-conference in track and field.

Junior Daisy White topped the list, being honored in the shot put and discus throw.

Other Spartan girls honored were junior Carolina Becker (high jump) and freshman Marcia Mogensen (long jump).

Spartan boys named all-conference were senior Brendan French (110 hurdles), sophomore Gunnar Gronski (300 hurdles), senior Brandon Myer (high jump), senior Foster Stromgren (pole vault), and junior Nicholas Ferrando (long jump).


Girls soccer

The season came to an end for the SHS girls soccer team with a 7-1 loss to Eau Claire Memorial Thursday in Eau Claire.

Addie Young scored for Superior with an assist from Sage Olson.

Sam Young had 24 saves for Superior, which was outshot 52-1.

Haley Hartkemeyer scored the game’s first three goals and assisted on two more for the Old Abes (21-1) who defeated Hudson 1-0 Saturday.


Boys golf

SHS golfer Kiefer Eales finished in 41st place with a 92 at the sectional golf meet last week at Wild Ridge Golf Course in Eau Claire.
