SHS boys still undefeated in LSC

The Superior High School boys basketball team tightened its grip on first place in the Lake Superior Conference with a 55-44 win Tuesday night at Hermantown.

The Spartans improve to 10-2 overall and 6-0 in league play, while the Hawks are in second place in the LSC at 3-2.

Brandon Myer led the Spartans with a game-high 18 points, which included 14-of-16 shooting from the free-throw line. Brett Lozon was next with 13 points and Aaron O’Shaughnessy added 11.

Thomas Madison led Hermantown with 16 points.

The Spartans led 26-24 at the half despite making just three field goals — 3-pointers by Lozon and O’Shaughnessy, and a 2-pointer by Justin Reinkall. The remaining points came on 18-of-20 shooting from the free-throw line.

Superior outscored Hermantown 29-20 in the second half.

The Spartans host Chippewa Falls at 6 p.m. Saturday.

SPARTAN SPIN: Superior’s junior varsity won 60-56 to improve to 11-1. Much of the game was played at the free-throw line with the Spartans attempting 42 free throws and Hermantown 36. … Superior’s C team also won to improve to 7-4. … The SHS C team will host Northwestern at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Superior Middle School.
