Daniel Mikel’s goal 12 seconds into overtime gave the Superior High School boys hockey team a 3-2 victory over Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Friday night in Cloquet.

Aaron Miller and Beau Reder also scored for the Spartans, who improve to 11-11 on the season.

Paxton Paine finished with 11 saves for the Spartans, who had 28 shots on goal.

James Newgren had both goals for the host Lumberjacks (7-13-2).

After a scoreless first period, CEC scored the only goal of the second period.

The Spartans took a 2-1 lead early in the third period as Miller scored at 46 seconds and Reder scored  37 seconds later.

Superior is back in action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hermantown.

The game will be carried live on WNXR 107.3 FM and on My9 Television.
