SHS girls hockey team wins third straight

The Superior High School girls hockey team notched its third straight victory with a 3-2 win over Chippewa Falls/Menomonie Saturday night at the Chippewa Falls Ice Arena.

The Spartans began their recent run with a 7-2 win over Eau Claire-Altoona on Jan. 24 then defeated Silver Bay 8-4 Thursday at home.

Emma Peterson scored all three goals Saturday night and Justin Stenberg stopped 23 shots to pick up the win in goal.

Devyn Moss assisted on Peterson’s first goal and Kali Krivinchuk and Amanda Hinaus helped give Superior a 3-0 lead with a power-play goal 3:05 into the third period.

Kennedy Kerg scored midway through the second period for Chippewa Falls and Kailey Dresel scored with 2:28 remaining.

Sam Young had four goals and an assist and Stenberg made 25 saves in the Spartans’ win over Silver Bay 8-4 Tuesday night at the Superior Ice Arena.

The Spartans also got three goals and two assists from Peterson and a goal and an assist from Moss.

The Spartans led 3-1 after one period and 4-2 after two.

Silver Bay tied the game at 4-4 with a pair of goals in the first four minutes of the third period.

Moss scored the eventual game-winning goal at 5:45 then the Spartans sealed the victory when Moss completed her hat trick and Young scored her third and fourth goals of the game.

The Spartans play Chippewa Falls/Menomonie against at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Superior Ice Arena.

Superior also plays at Siren at 7 p.m. Thursday and St. Croix Falls at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Baldwin United Civic Center.
