Gustafson tops 2,000 points; Cards win two

South Shore’s Megan Gustafson topped the 2,000-point mark for her career after scoring 46 points in the Cardinals’ 60-44 home playoff victory over Winter Friday night.

Gustafson added to her total with 21 points in Saturday’s 73-28 win over Mellen.

She now has 2,055 career points.

The 6-foot-4 junior leads the state in scoring (29.8 points a game) and rebounding (18.7 per game).

The Cardinals play Siren (19-5) in a Division 5, Section 1 sectional semifinal game at 7 p.m. Thursday in Hayward.

The winner will play either Turtle Lake (16-7) or Owen-Withee (20-5) in the sectional championship game at 7 p.m. Saturday in Spooner.

In the win over Mellen, South Shore also got 17  points from Jenna Sorenson and 14 from Janice Anderson.

According to, Gustafson has college offers from Wisconsin, UW-Green Bay, Marquette, Northwestern, Iowa State, Iowa, Saint Louis, Indiana, Kansas State, North Dakota, Toledo, South Dakota State, Liberty University, DePaul and Upper Iowa.
