Superior oval inks new naming rights sponsor

Gondik Law Speedway is the new name for the race track located at the Head of the Lakes Fairgrounds in Superior.

The race track was known as AMSOIL Speedway before the Superior-based synthetic lubricant manufacturer ended its seven-year run as naming rights sponsor; prior to that, it was known as Superior Speedway.

Rick Gondik and his sons, Garrett and Jake, run a law practice on Belknap Street in Superior and are avid racing fans, having been involved on the local scene with sponsorship, promotion and racing.

Newly named Gondik Law Speedway promoter Joe Stariha said, “we are super excited to announce our new naming rights sponsorship with Gondik Law Office. Rick and Garrett have been lifelong race fans and very big supporters of our speedway in the past. This sponsorship now allows us to put the final touches on our front-stretch lighting project before the start of the season.

“Our board of directors can’t thank the Gondik family enough, and we look forward to a long-term relationship.”

“We are also very excited to have this opportunity at the speedway,” Rick Gondik said. “Garrett came into the business this year, and Jake will be joining us after law school in a couple years, so this sponsorship was a great opportunity to advertise our growing business, while continuing to support local racing that my family and I have been very involved with over the past 20 years.

“The board at the racetrack has done so many improvements and upgrades over the past seven years, and we want to help them continue this into the future.”

The 2018 season is set to kick off on May 9 with an open practice before the season opener on  Friday, May 11.

Racing is scheduled most Friday nights throughout the summer with a pair of multi-day mega events featuring the 3rd annual $10,000 to win Great Lakes Border Battle on June 29-30 and July 1, and the 30th annual Northern Nationals, held on Sept. 6-8.

Other schedule highlights include the Advantage RV Modified Tour on June 8; the Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series on June 22; the Fastlane Motorsports Super Stock Series on July 20; the Twin Ports Twin 25’s on July 27; and the pair of Head of the Lakes Fair events on Tue., July 10 and Friday, July 13.
