Amber, Colby finish 10th at NCAA championships

Colby College senior Olivia Amber helped lead the Mules to a 10th-place finish over the weekend at the 2017 NCAA Division I Skiing Championships in Jackson, N.H.

The team had a combined alpine and Nordic skiing score of 142.5. The University of Utah won the overall title with 541.5 points.

In Thursday’s 5-kilometer classic, Amber placed 18th in a time of 16 minutes, 17.5 seconds. She placed fifth among Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association (EISA) skiers.

Petra Hyncicova finished first in 14:55.5 for the University of Colorado.

Saturday in the women’s 15K freestyle, Amber again placed 18th. She crossed the finish line in 41:47.1.

Hyncicova won the event in 39:21.6.

Amber, who last year became the first All-American in Colby program history, earned EISA All-East Second Team honors this season. At the Eastern Championships Feb. 24-25, she placed second in the 15K and fourth in the 5K.

The former Northwestern Tiger advanced to the NCAA Division I Championships all four years she competed for the Mules.
