Iowa, Green Bay notch Tuesday night victories
The Iowa women’s basketball team evened its record in the Big Ten with a 71-59 victory over Rutgers Tuesday in New Jersey.
The Hawkeyes are now 12-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
Sophomore Megan Gustafson went a perfect 7-of-7 from the floor Tuesday and led Iowa with 19 points.
She also contributed two assists and three rebounds in 32 minutes.
Through Tuesday’s games, Gustafson ranked 10th in the Big Ten in scoring average (17.5 ppg), fifth in rebounding (9.7 rpg), second in field goal percentage (.675) and eighth in blocks (1.4 bpg).
The Hawkeyes return to action Saturday with a home game against the Minnesota Gophers (10-8, 1-4). Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
With a victory over Valparaiso Tuesday, the Green Bay Phoenix extended their winning streak to eight games and improved to 16-2 overall and 7-0 in the Horizon League.
Junior Jessica Lindstrom has six rebounds, four points and a block in the win.
Through Tuesday’s games, Lindstrom ranked second in the Horizon League in rebounding (10.3 rpg) and, with a 10.4 scoring average, was one of just two players averaging a double-double.
She leads the league in defensive rebounding (7.3 rpg) and is fourth on the offensive boards (3.1 rpg).
Lindstrom has led Green Bay in rebounding for 15 of the team’s 18 games so far this season.
Her rebounding average is more than triple that of the next player on the team.
The Phoenix host UW-Milwaukee at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kress Center in Green Bay.
