SPARTAN ROUND-UP: SHS girls fall to Chisago Lakes

A cold-shooting Superior High School girls basketball team lost 58-35 Friday night at Chisago Lakes.

The Spartans, now 9-11 overall, made just 4-of-14 from the free-throw line, compared to 10-of-13 for Chisago Lakes.

“Chisago Lakes has a good team and when your not making open shots and your free throws, your not going to beat a good team,” SHS coach Dave Kontny said. “That’s been our problem most of the season and we have been trying to improve in those areas with our practice plans, but that’s all we can do from a coaching standpoint.”

The Spartans got 11 points from Madisen Myer and nine from Niya Wilson.

“The kids are working very hard and that’s all we can ask from them,” Kontny said. “Tuesday we play a ranked team in Hayward so there’s not a lot of time to think about this one.”

The Spartans host the Hurricanes tonight and then wrap up the regular season by hosting Duluth Denfeld Monday. Both games begin at 7:15 p.m.

SPARTAN SPIN: Superior is the No. 12 seed for the WIAA playoffs and will play at No. 5 Appleton East on Feb. 23.
