Tiger boys win, girls lose

The Northwestern Tigers boys basketball team rallied past the Cumberland Beavers for a 55-51 victory Tuesday night in Cumberland.

Trailing 30-19 after the first half, the Tigers outscored the Beavers 36-21 in the second half to improve to 6-5 overall and 4-1 in the Heart O’ North Conference.

Cumberland Falls to 6-5 and 3-3.

Kade Bartelt had the hot hand for Northwestern with 29 points, of which 21 came in the second half. His totals included seven 3-pointers and 2-of-3 shooting from the free-throw line.

Jenner Graff was next with 13 points, with all but three of the points in the second half, and Brody Payton and Jeffrey McClure added seven and six points, respectively.

Kobe Berghammer led Cumberland with 18 points, which included 7-of-8 on free throws. Riley Bodsberg added 14 points on four 3-pointers and two free throws.

The Tigers host Ladysmith at 7:15 p.m. Friday and at St. Croix Central at 3:45 p.m. Saturday.

Girls hoops

The Tigers fell to the Rice Lake Warriors 77-61 at home Tuesday night.

Brook Olson and Sam Soley had a lot to do with Rice Lake improving to 9-2 on the season.

Olson finished with a game-high 34 points, while Soley made six 3-pointer to finish with 18 points.

The Tigers had three players score in double figures, led by Mac Correll, who scored 15 points on five 3-pointers. Kennedy Nelson was next with 14 points and Katie Lundeen added 12.

The Tigers play at Chetek at 7:15 p.m. Thursday and at St. Croix Central at 2 p.m. Saturday.
