The Northwestern girls basketball team bounced back from a lopsided loss to Hayward with a 45-37 win over Barron Tuesday night in Maple.
With the win, the Tigers go to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Heart O’ North.
Senior center Sam Hoegan scored 13 points and had nine rebounds for the Tigers. Mac Correll also had 13 points, including three 3-pointers.
Northwestern started out fast with a 12-2 lead. Barron fought back and it was 16-9 for the Tigers before they closed out with six straight points for a 22-9 halftime bulge.
Barron closed the gap to 24-17 with 13:10 remaining when Correll drained a three for a double-digit lead. Barron could get no closer than six the rest of the way.
Also for the Tigers, Katie Lundeen had eight points; Sydney Anderson had three; and Karsyn Jones, Kasha Hughlett, Kennedy Nelson and Brecken Oswskey all had two.
“We didn’t play our best, but it was a win,” Tiger coach Rich Windt said. “We’ll have to play better than that at Bloomer.”
The Tigers play at Bloomer at 7:15 p.m. today (Friday).
