Coulter and Cedar Holden, of South Range, recently competed in the 2016 USA Climbing Sport & Speed Youth Nationals, held in Kennesaw, Ga.

Coulter, 15, had won every contest in which he competed this season leading up to the national event, where he placed 16th.

Cedar, 12, placed ninth in sport and 17th in speed for his age class at the national event. He has now advanced to the national level in all three areas of climbing: sport, speed and bouldering.

The Holden brothers participated in the 2016 USA Climbing Bouldering Youth National Championship in February. Coulter placed 27th among males in his age division, while Cedar placed 33rd in his division. The event was held in Madison this year.

Carlson to play in Spain

Mike Carlson, of Superior, recently signed to play next season with the Spanish LEB Gold professional basketball team Palma Air Europa, based in Majorca, Spain.

Carlson had spent the last two seasons as a starter for CB Clavijo in Logrono, Spain.

He was a Division II All-American and Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year while playing collegiate basketball at Truman State University. Carlson played high school basketball at Duluth Marshall.

Oulu Rock Run

Cole Lahti and Lily Ryan set 1-mile run/walk records during the 10th annual Oulu Rock Run Friday at Oulu Pioneer Memorial Park.

Lahti men’s record time of 6 minutes, 58 seconds beat out Austin Lahti, who finished second in 7:43.

Ryan’s new record time of 7:11 beat out runner-up Paige Lahti, who finished in 7:42.

Leo Mack won the men’s 3-mile cross country race, and Bethany Olson was the women’s 3-mile cross country winner.
