We’ll probably never know for certain the round in which the Green Bay Packers had Matt Flynn graded. Suffice it to say that it was considerably higher than the seventh, which is where general manager Ted Thompson used the 209th overall pick obtained in a trade with Minnesota to select the quarterback who led Louisiana State to the national championship in January.

The Superior High School softball team finished second at the Becker (Minn.) tournament, losing to the host team 2-0 in the championship game. The Spartans advanced to the title game by defeating Foley 12-2 in the six innings and St. Cloud Tech 8-0.

SHS wins track titles

The Superior High School boys and girls track teams continued their strong seasons with wins at the 53rd Doc Savage meet at Hibbing, Minn. and Grand Rapids meet Saturday.

Snow shortens Miller Invite to 18 holes

For just the third time in the 31-year history of Hayward High School’s Scott Miller Invitational, the golf event only played 18 holes. After playing the first round in a steady rain, Saturday’s action was canceled because of snow. The only other times play was limited were in 1979 (snow) and 1995 (rain).

’Jackets compete at WIAC meet

The University of Wisconsin-Superior men’s and women’s track teams were in action Friday and Saturday at the WIAC Outdoor Conference Championships held at Eau Claire. The meet was delayed from more than an hour Friday because of lightning, and weather continued to be an issue throughout the meet. UWS set a number of records in the meet.

The University of Wisconsin-Superior softball team ended its season Saturday with one win and a pair of losses in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. The Yellowjackets defeated UW-Stout in the elimination game, 2-0, and then went on to fall to UW-Whitewater and UW-Stevens Point.

UWS drops pair to UW-La Crosse

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team swept two games against the UW-Superior Yellowjackets Sunday in Superior. The Yellowjackets, now 15-21 overall, fell 5-2 in the opener and 8-3 in the second game of the doubleheader. The two teams played two more games today beginning at noon.
