Fleeting time waits for no one

I think, the first time I heard this saying on time, it was “time waits for no man” and we knew that meant all of us — women are finally being almost fully recognized. What took us so long?

A local friend and poet, Bud Brand, has received good news on his poem, “Time.’ It will be printed in an upcoming book, “On the Wings of Pegasus.”

“Time is a fleeting friend,

It gives us life,

Then takes it back again,

In the realm of eternity,

Our lives last only as long

As it takes the wind

To touch our cheek.”

Evidently, all the authors on time are looking at the universe. Different scientists’ speculate on how long humankind has been on earth. A recent National Geographic article used 300,000 years as the scientists’ conclusion at this time. They have examined numerable skeletons long buried for DNA and other evidence.

Whatever the right figures turn out to be, as Bud says, in the realm of eternity it is not long at all.

We should do our best to use our limited lifetime in positive ways. Some conclusions, I’ve arrived at during my long life path:

• Time is free for you and me. Our parents primarily, but many others have also helped us extensively along the way.

• Time is priceless. We can’t buy it. We can’t own it, we can’t keep it, but it does give us time to use as we see fit, and we know that it should use it wisely.

• Once we’ve lost time, we can never retrieve it. Once we’ve killed time there is no resurrection.

We know that we shouldn’t waste time because that is really a way of losing ourselves.

Those of us lucky and happily married know what Robert Browning meant when he wrote, “Grow old along with me; the best is yet to be!”

The best thing to spend on your children is you.

A quote, I’ve saved sums it all up. Time is:

“Too slow for those that wait.

Too slow for those that fear.

Too long for those that grieve.

Too short for those that rejoice.

But for those that love, time is eternity.”

Some humor for a conclusion:

Americans have more labor saving devices and less time than any other people in the world.

A committee usually keeps minutes and wastes time.

Have you noticed that a bore always takes time boring you?

Nothing makes time pass more quickly than vacations and short-term loans.

Time is like money, you can only spend it once. Hopefully, we will all spend what we have left wisely.
