Albert Joseph Sampson

Albert Joseph Sampson, age 72, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at his residence in Solon Springs, WI. He was born March 27, 1945 in Hawthorne, WI, the son of John M. and Gladys Louise (Lord) Sampson.

Al proudly served his country with the United States Army in Vietnam and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a mail carrier for over thirty years in Superior's east end. Al was a true outdoorsman, spending as much time as he could fishing and hunting. He loved all wildlife especially watching birds. He also was a gardener and woodworker.

He is survived by his son, Nathan (Ida Barton) Sampson of Solon Springs; his grandson, Hunter W. Sampson; his significant other, Donna Meltz of Superior; his sister, Sandra (Cecil) Zimmerman of Proctor, MN; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Al is preceded in death by his two brothers, John and Cornelius Sampson.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Solon Springs, where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of Mass. A private interment will be held in the spring in Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
