Young swimmer drowns at Minnesota state park

GLYNDON, Minn. – A popular swimming area at Buffalo River State Park in northwest Minnesota east of Moorhead is closed as officers investigate the drowning of a juvenile.

Emergency responders were called to the swimming area around 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, on a report of a person there who was unconscious and not breathing.

Clay County Sgt. Josh Schroeder confirmed that authorities were investigating the drowning of a juvenile. More information, including the victim’s age and gender, wasn’t immediately available Wednesday.

Schroeder said protocols were followed in responding to the incident, adding that several lifeguards were on duty at the time.
