Tiger wrestlers pinned a team sectional
The Northwestern High School wrestling team lost to Spencer/Columbus Catholic 45-27 in WIAA Division 2 team sectional tournament Tuesday night in Hayward.
Ellsworth defeated Somerset 67-12 in the other semifinal then defeated Spencer/Columbus Catholic 47-21 in the finals for a berth in the state team tournament March 2-3 in Madison.
The Tigers had five winners Tuesday night against Spencer/Columbus Catholic. Braden Trautt won a 5-4 decision over Leo Rodriguez; Calen Kirkpatrick pinned Andres Rodriguez; Zach Pooler pinned Josh Guyer; Donny Pooler pinned Tanner Kleinschmidt; and Andrew Hanson pinned Carson Hildebrandt.
The season isn’t over yet for eight Tigers, who will compete in Saturday’s individual sectional tournament in Amery.
Wrestling for the Tigers Saturday will be Tjay Ziebarth (120 pounds), Kirkpatrick (138), D. Pooler (170) and Morgan Berggren (285), who finished first in the regional tournament, and Trautt (113), Brody Burke (132), Z. Pooler (145) and Hanson (182), who finished second.
The top three finishers Saturday will advance to the state tournament Feb. 22-23 in Madison.

The NHS girls (14-7, 9-4 HON) wrap up its regular season by hosting Ladysmith (5-15) at 7:15 p.m. today.
The Tigers are the No. 5 seed for the WIAA Division 3 playoffs and will host No. 12 Spooner (7-12) at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The winner will play at No. 4 Amery on Friday, Feb. 23.
The Tiger boys (10-10, 8-4 HON) hosted Cumberland Thursday night and wrap up the regular season Thursday, Feb. 22 at Ladysmith.
