Gianna Kneepkens’ 21 points led the Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers to a 44-30 win over the Superior High School girls basketball team Monday night in the SHS gym.

The Hilltoppers, who led 23-14 at the half, also got 15 points from Grace Kirk.

Lexi Jensen led Superior with 10 points.

“The bottom line was we just couldn’t buy a basket,” SHS coach Dave Kontny said. “I thought we did a great job defensively all night, we had 19 steals and other turnovers, but we just could not convert, even layups. When that happens it becomes a chain effect and that was the case tonight.

“We moved the ball well, got great looks and even when we ran our plays for easy baskets, they just didn’t fall. The girls played hard all night and that’s all we can ask”

The Spartans, who played at Duluth East Thursday night, host Eau Claire North tonight and play at Virginia Tuesday. Both games begin at 7:15 p.m.
