Peter V. Golden, 71, of Superior, died suddenly on Monday, December 11, 2017 at home after a short battle with cancer. He was born on May 22, 1946 to Peter E. and Apolonia (Fronckiewicz) Golden.
Peter invested much of his life energy to promote and support causes that were important to him; the Northland Gay Men's Center and the Rural AIDS Action Network. It was always part of his nature to do whatever he could to help others who needed assistance or care. Under the Kinship Care Program of Douglas County, Peter was a longtime mentor and friend to Michael Broadwell. For many years he was also a member of the community of amateur magicians in the Twin Ports area entertaining and teaching audiences both young and old.
Peter's professional life included employment as a Regional Case Manager at the Minnesota AIDS project, a Career Developer for Project SOAR, an Adult Education Management Instructor and Accountant at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College, the Events Coordinator at the Duluth Depot Heritage and Art Center, Program Coordinator at WDSE, and Assistant Office Manager at Larson Chevrolet of Superior.
He will be dearly missed by his four siblings, Cecelia (Walter) Beattie, Superior; Mary (Douglas) Guimond, Superior; Alice Golden, Austin, Texas; James (Kim) Golden, Rochester, Minnesota. In addition he was a favorite uncle to his nine nieces and nephews and sixteen great nieces and nephews whom he deeply loved and always championed. Peter was proud of his Polish heritage. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Douglas Guimond. Peter had many lifetime friends and he did so much to care for others including those most recently at the Grand Central community.
Per Peter's request a memorial celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Superior Moose Club, 66 East 5th Street, Superior.
