Service offers relief for those blue at Christmas
Dec. 21 is the darkest day of the year.
For many people, Christmas is the darkest season. We miss loved ones who are no longer with us. We dread the empty places at the table. We may be facing Christmas on our own. This is also a difficult time for people who struggle with depression and other mental illnesses. The world around us spins with colored lights and Christmas cheer, yet many people struggle to get through the season.
The Blue Christmas Service is a time to gather in a quiet and safe space. The music is gentle, and the welcome is genuine. The service includes a time to light candles in memory of loved ones as well as a time for prayer.
Everyone is invited to the service at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1924 Wyoming Ave., Superior.
Feel free to quietly come and go but you are also invited to stay after the service for food and fellowship.
