SAND CREEK, Wis. — The body of a 69-year-old woman was found just inside the door of her Dunn County home that burned Monday, Nov. 6.

Sand Creek Fire Chief Joel Smith said the home was engulfed in flames and the roof burned off when firefighters arrived at the home.

Dunn County Emergency Communications received a call from a neighbor about the house fire at 8:20 p.m.

The body of the woman, who lived alone at the residence, was taken for an autopsy Tuesday for a positive identification.

The fire appears to have started in the northeast corner of the home, where a stove or fireplace may have been the origin of the blaze, Smith said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department and the State Fire Marshal’s office.
