Minnesota State Patrol identifies driver who died in crash into St. Louis River
SCANLON, Minn.—Authorities have identified the driver who died when his semi truck crashed into the St. Louis River amid snowy conditions early Friday morning, Oct. 27.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported that Christopher Michael Lucia, 44, of Duluth was killed when his truck crashed at about 4:41 a.m. Friday after sliding off the northbound lane of I-35 and into the St. Louis River at Scanlon just before the bridge over the river.
The truck landed on its side, partially submerged in the water in the median between the north- and southbound bridges, Cloquet Area Fire District Chief Kevin Schroeder said on Friday.
Several law enforcement and firefighting agencies came together to search for Lucia, and firefighters discovered the his body just over two hours after the accident.
