Staff fundraiser helps backpack program

On Wednesday, Douglas County and city of Superior employee held a lunch fundraiser and raised $691 for Project Joy, a local initiative that supports Second Harvest's backpack program that provides food on weekend for children in need. We are happy to support our community and look forward to more of these opportunities.

The Douglas County Courthouse and Government Center in Superior is open to trick-or-treaters 1-4 p.m. on Halloween Day. While Superior schools are closed that day, various county and city departments welcome the kids and have treats available.

Four county meetings are scheduled for next week.

The Land and Development Committee meets at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Room 207C of the courthouse, 1313 Belknap St., Superior.

The Douglas County Board meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Room 201 of the Government Center, 1316 N. 14th St., Superior, to review and adopt the 2018 budget. The proposed budget is available on our website.

The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee meets at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Highway Department, 7417 County Road E, Hawthorne. The committee will hear applications to designate ATV routes near the towns of Solon Springs, Summit, Gordon, Hawthorne, Amnicon, Dairyland and the village of Oliver. The meeting will also provide an update on hiring a firm to design reconstruction projects for County Highways C and Z.

Finally, the Administration Committee meets at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Room 207C of the courthouse.
