Solon Springs boys advance to state

The Solon Springs/Northwood boys cross country team advanced to the WIAA Division 3 State Championships with a second-place finish at Friday’s Drummond sectional at the Telemark Golf Course in Cable.

Solon Springs’ Owen Dickenson won the boys race with a time of 17 minutes, 38.7 seconds. Connor Berg of Ladysmith finished in second place with a time of 17:40.6.

Dickenson’s teammate, Nick Zosel, finished in sixth place in 18:04.3.

Other Eagle runners, and their places, were Alex Hunter (17); Aaron Pfister (25); Luke Dahlberg (26); Brody Pierce (28); and Christian Sellwood (34).

Phillips swept both team titles. The Logger boys had 44 points, followed by Solon Springs with 63 points.

The Phillips girls finished with 57 points. Chequamegon was next with 61 points and Ladysmith finished third with 63 points.

Ladysmith’s Erica Loe won the girls race in 20:12.6.

Solon Springs was led by Lily Nordskog, who finished in 36th place. Other Eagle girls were Ellie Burger (50); Julie Manor (68); and Jade Maki (73).

The state meet is Saturday at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. The Eagle boys will run at 2:35 p.m.
