The Solon Springs High School volleyball team came up short in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-20) loss to the South Shore Cardinals Monday night in the SSHS gym.

Madisen Smith and Allison Androsky each had six ace serves for the host Eagles.

In earlier action, Drummond defeated Solon Springs 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-17).

The Eagles were led by Kylli Rajala’s 10 aces, and Smith’s six kills.

A slow start on Sept. 11 led to Solon Springs’ 3-0 (25-4, 25-12, 25-17) home loss to Mellen.

“We got off to a sloppy start while Mellen did a good job serving aggressively,” SSHS coach Marcus Besonen said.

The Eagles played better in the second and third games with some tough serving from Mellen and hitting errors from Solon being the big differences.

Rajala and Smith led the Eagles with three kills apiece. Rajala and Nikki Orazco also had three aces apiece.

In action on Aug. 31, Solon Springs lost to the Frederic Vikings 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-12).

The Eagles were led by Allison Androsky’s seven ace serves. Orozco added four aces serves and Rajala had three.

The Eagles play at Washburn Thursday and host Butternut Monday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
