2017 All-Area Baseball Team
The 2017 baseball season proved a challenge for some Wisconsin high school teams as they struggled to adapt to new pitching limit rules, but at least two local teams thrived under the change.
In Maple, the Northwestern Tigers put themselves in contention for the Heart O’ North Conference title. They finished in third place but then advanced to the WIAA Division 2 regional finals with an upset victory over conference-champion Hayward.
In Superior, the Spartans made history by winning their first Lake Superior Conference title in 13 years.
“The team came together. Everything just started clicking for our whole team,” said Justin Reinkall, the 2017 Superior Telegram Baseball Player of the Year. “We’re always there to pick each other up. If one person makes a bad play or something like that, the person behind him is always right there.
“It’s just a good team chemistry we have, and it’s just fun to be around the guys knowing that we get to play together every day.”
Joining Reinkall on the 2017 Superior Telegram All-Area Baseball Team are six other seniors, two juniors and one sophomore.
This year’s team is made up of four Tigers, three Spartans, two Eagles and one Evergreen.
Also nominated were Northwestern senior Tanner Klobucher and Solon Springs junior Ethan Skaggs.
