NOTES: The Red went 1-3 in last year’s Classic — losing to Anoka (6-1), defeating Cloquet (12-1) and losing to Rosemount Green (3-2) in pool play, then losing against to Rosemount (9-7) in bracket play.

Reds 5, Chippewa Falls 4

The Reds tuned up for this weekend’s tournament with a 5-4 win over Chippewa Falls Wednesday evening at Morrie Arnovich Field.

The win also snapped Superior’s two-game skid after it went 1-2 at the Land of the Loon Tournament in Virginia.

The Reds used five pitchers Wednesday — Mason Moen, Austin Sears, Judd Erickson, Michael LaJoie and Matt Strum.

LaJoie picked up the win, allowing two hits with two strikeouts in two scoreless innings. Strum pitched a perfect ninth inning for the save.

Reinkall led the Reds at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double and five RBIs.  Austin Sears and Gunner Johnson added RBI hits; and Judd Erickson, Dominic D’Auria and Derek Fender had a hit apiece.

Land of the Loon

The Reds finished fourth in the Land of the Loon Tournament. After defeating Hermantown 5-4 Friday, they suffered their first loss of season at the hands of Nisswa (Brainerd area), then lost to West Duluth 11-1 in five innings in the third-placed game. … Nisswa went on to defeat Grand Rapids 6-5 in the championship game.
