Local hockey players sign contracts
Friday marked a busy day for signings as former Minnesota Duluth players Andrew Carroll and Mike Connolly re-signed professional contracts and former Twin Ports high school players Mike Sislo and Zack Fitzgerald also signed deals.
Carroll, who has played minor-league hockey since leaving UMD in 2009, re-signed with the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League. The left winger from Shoreview, Minn., scored 13 goals last year in splitting time with Connecticut and the Idaho Steelheads.
Connolly, who scored 55 goals as a UMD left winger from 2008-11, signed with Augsburg of the German Ice Hockey League.
Sislo, a Superior native who starred at the University of New Hampshire, was re-signed by the New Jersey Devils. He has played the past two full seasons with the Albany Devils of the AHL, scoring a 22 goals.
Fitzgerald, who played one year at Duluth East before spending four years in junior hockey, re-signed a deal with the Adirondack Phantoms of the AHL. Former Duluth high school standout and UMD player Rob Bordson is on the Phantoms' roster.
Former UMD goaltender Alex Stalock re-signed a one-year contract with the San Jose Sharks on July 10. He played 38 games with Worcester of the AHL and two appearances in San Jose.
