Young faces charges in campus incidents

A Superior man accused of bicycling by female pedestrians on the University of Wisconsin-Superior campus and touching their buttocks waived a preliminary hearing in Douglas County Circuit Court last week.

John Frank Young, 28, faces one count felony stalking and two counts fourth-degree sexual assault stemming from incidents this October. He was set for arraignment Dec. 30.

According to the criminal complaint:

Young followed one of the victims around several times over the course of a month, often while riding a mountain bike. He would ride up behind her, staying very close or circling around her. She told police he also started at her home, took a photo or video of her and slapped her buttocks.

Another female said she was at a crosswalk along Catlin Avenue when Young rode up to her, reached out and touched her buttocks, said "nice" and rode away.

Young remained in custody at the Douglas County Jail on Monday. Cash bail of $2,000 was set for the case. Young was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victims, the UWS campus or any female students.

The Superior man was convicted of fourth-degree sex assault for a similar incident along Superior's Osaugie Trail in April 2012.
