Two injured, 6 cited in Superior rollover
Two people were hospitalized after a single-vehicle accident in Superior early Saturday morning.
Superior Fire Department Battalion Chief Vern Johnson said the rollover accident occurred at 1:17 a.m. in the 3500 block of Billings Drive. Superior police Sgt. Chris Kirchoff said six people were in the vehicle. According to a Superior Police report, five of them were 18 years old and the other was 19. Two people were injured seriously enough to be taken to an area hospital, but none of the injuries was life-threatening, Johnson said. According to a Superior Police report, one passenger had surgery to clean glass out of his knee and another passenger suffered a fractured pelvis.
Two other people sustained minor injuries, Johnson said.
The six were returning from a Halloween party at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, according to the report. The driver said the passengers were egging him on to go faster so he sped up. He came into a corner going way too fast, lost control of the car and went off the road. The five passengers were mailed citations for underage drinking and riding in a vehicle without wearing a seat belt. The driver was cited for reckless driving and underage person transporting intoxicants in a motor vehicle.
