The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the case of an SUV found partially submerged in the water off Superior's Connor’s Point on Friday.
The SUV was empty, said Battalion Chief Scott Gordon of the Superior Fire Department, which was first on the scene along with the Superior Police Department.
“There’s nobody in it,” Gordon said, describing a search that included responders wearing Mustang suits wading into the bay to search the area inside and surrounding the SUV. The Mustang suits were used to keep search team members from getting wet.
Authorities pulled the vehicle identification number as they initiated their investigation, said Gordon.
The black SUV was a new model, Gordon said, and featured dents across the back roof and tailgate. A passerby first reported the SUV. No further details were available as the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, which has jurisdiction over the water around Superior.
