State tourism department releases snow condition report

The Wisconsin Department of Tourism has officially launched its snow condition report, which tracks snow depth and whether cross-country ski trails around the state have been groomed or not.

It also lists conditions on snowmobile trails and at downhill ski and snowboarding hills.

Department of Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett says there's not a lot of snow to report right now, but that will be changing soon.

"Ski hills love to open for Thanksgiving weekend," says Klett. "So in just a few days you should see that snow conditions map change radically. Right now our ski hills across the state are making that snow, and boy has the technology improved over the years."

The website uses more than 130 snow conditions reporters statewide who report at least weekly and after each snowfall. Klett says people can subscribe at the Department of Tourism website,, to have a snow report emailed to them each week.
