Superior kicks off summer park program

The city of Superior launched its Summer Playground Program.

The free program offers safe, structured activities for children ages 5-11 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at six city parks — Gouge Park, 315 13th Ave. E.; Webster Park, 5718 Tower Ave.; Hammond Park, 1920 Hammond Ave.; North 18th Street and Oakes Avenue Playground, 1725 Oakes Ave.; Billings Park off Billings Drive; and Wade Bowl Park, 1228 Clough Ave.

The sites are monitored by employees trained in first aid and CPR. Each site is equipped with bathroom facilities, drinking water and a cell phone for emergencies. Through a partnership with the Superior school district, free lunch and snacks are offered each day.

Children must be registered at the park where they attend the program. Registration is taken on site daily and children can sign up at any time during the program, which runs through Aug. 4. In addition to activities at the parks, participants will have the opportunity to take field trips to places like the library, YMCA, World of Wheels and Landmark Lanes.
