Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity receives statewide honor

Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota selected Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity for the 2014 Best Practices Award in building foundations.

“Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity has demonstrated leadership by merging with other affiliates in their area, adding a ReStore and growing their home repair program,” said April Riordan, capacity building director of Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota. “An engaged board, strong committees and staff leadership have helped this affiliate overcome challenges and change public perception to position themselves to serve more families.”

The Best Practices Awards were created to honor and disseminate best practices to Habitat for Humanity affiliates across Minnesota. The award was presented by Commissioner Mary Tingerthal, Minnesota Housing Finance Agency, at the statewide conference in Willmar, Minn. on March 14.

“It’s nice to be recognized for the hard work we’ve put in rebuilding the capacity of Habitat to serve the greater Twin Ports community,” said Daryl Yankee, executive director of Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity.

This is the second Best Practices Award that Western Lake Superior Habitat for Humanity has received. The first was in 2011 for being one of the first affiliates outside the Twin Cities to launch A Brush with Kindness home repair program.
