Sex assaults targeted juveniles
A Superior man accused of multiple sex offenses against juvenile victims made his initial appearance in Douglas County Court Tuesday.
Darrell Duyea Murphy, 50, faces felony charges of second degree sexual assault, sexual assault of a child under 16 years of age, first degree child sexual assault with a child under age 16 by use or threat of force and causing a child under the age of 13 to view sexual activity. He remains in custody at the Douglas County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.
Superior Police executed a search warrant at Murphy's residence, 1815 ½ Iowa Ave., Friday, according to a release by Sgt. Derrick Hughes of the Superior Police Department. Subsequent to the search, Murphy was arrested for multiple criminal counts of sexually-related activities.
The investigation indicates that Murphy would provide cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs to females, most of whom are under the age of 18, and would then make sexual advances towards them. The allegations include inappropriate touching as well as other sexual contact.
If convicted of the charges, Murphy faces a combined maximum penalty of 146 years imprisonment and fines of up to $210,000.
