The Superior Senior High School Spartans romped to a 14-4 five-inning baseball win over the Morgan Park Wildcats. Kurt Standen picked up the win, his third in as many pitching starts. Larry Banks wielded the big bat, getting three of the Spartans' 14 hits, and four others -- Steve Sislo, Mike Susens, Jeff Nelson and Ken Lisdahl -- each hammered two hits. (1977)

Rod Sibila and his big bat helped the Northwestern Tigers win a 12-8 Heart O' North Conference baseball game from Bloomer. Sibila slammed a triple and two singles and Jim Lindahl added two singles to lead the Tigers' batting attack. (1980)

Sophomore Mike Charbonneau pitched a 2-0 no-hitter for the Superior Senior High School baseball team, which fashioned its fourth straight victory after dropping a season-opener. (1981)

Frank LaVelle got his hole-in-one the long way. He aced the long par-3, 207-yard 12th hole at the Nemadji Golf Course. He was playing with Jack and Delores Wallace. (1980)

Glen Erickson of Virginia started with a big flurry and used a punch to the ribs to defeat Dennis Anderson, a UW-Superior athlete, to win the title in the first annual Twin Ports all-heavyweight "Toughman" boxing tournament. (1981)
