Francis announces bid for 74th Assembly District

Jamey Francis, a Hurley small business owner, announced his candidacy for Wisconsin’s 74th Assembly District.

The 74th District is represented by Rep. Janet Bewley, D-Ashland, who is running for state senate to replace retiring Sen. Bob Jauch, D-Poplar.

Francis said northern Wisconsin needs a champion of the people representing them in Madison.

“Too often party politics gets in the way of doing what’s best for the hard working families of Wisconsin,” said Francis. “I want to go to Madison, and work to solve the challenges facing northern Wisconsin as well as our state. We need a government that is focused on the people not partisanship, I will listen to the people of the North and take their message to Madison!”

Francis has served as a Hurley City Councilman for six years. He is also a business owner and salesman for Streamline Apparel Inc., which covers a 200 mile radius across the 74th District. He also provides consultation in the credit card processing industry for many clients. Francis knows many small business owners across the district, knows their issues and concerns, and wants to serve as their voice in Madison. Francis is a board member of the Hurley Chamber of Commerce, and the Wisconsin Manufacturers of Commerce Small Business Committee. Francis also sits on the Gogebic/Iron Wastewater Treatment board as the city of Hurley’s appointee. His greatest passion is serving his church as a lector and 15 years as a board member with the Hurley Education Foundation for the Hurley School.

Francis knows that in order to create jobs in the northland and the state you have to understand the needs of the district, as a whole, and the needs of the small business owners and workers in our area.

“My No. 1 priority in Madison will be getting people back to work and growing our economy,” Francis said. “I look forward to meeting the voters of the 74th district and discussing how we can move our state forward together.”

Francis is 31, single, living in Hurley. He attended Gogebic Community College in Business Administration. The 74th Assembly District includes Ashland, Bayfield, Iron and Price counties and portions of Sawyer, Douglas and Vilas counties.
