Voters elect new DA, register of deeds

Douglas County voters have elected a new district attorney.

Former assistant district attorney Mark Fruehauf defeated 25-year incumbent, Dan Blank, with almost 59 percent of Tuesday’s vote.

With voter turnout hovering around 30 percent, Douglas County voters also elected to retain appointed County Treasurer Carol Jones with about 52 percent of the vote.

Former deputy register of deeds, Tracy Middleton, was elected as the next register of deeds, carrying slightly more than 50 percent of the vote in a three way race. The current register of deeds, Gayle Wahner, did not seek re-election.

While Tuesday’s election was a primary, all of the candidates vying to fill the county offices were Democrats, and none face a challenge on the Nov. 8 ballot.
